Her Lover’s Cup
This is a song about grief, and moving on with your life. It is told through the third person. When I wrote the song I was inspired by an image of a young woman looking over the ocean, carrying the urn of her recently deceased lover. It is written from the perspective of that moment of letting go, and moving on with your life.
The vocal lines were important for me. I wanted to create an eeriness, a sense of haunting. This is done with mulitple layers and harmonies, with one vocal layer leading over and into the next. The richness of cello and flute were added predominantly in the chorus to add to this intensely “sad” atmosphere.
