Out Of The Blue

Out of the Blue is about the self as flame. I wrote it one night as I watched a candle flickering for hours during a blackout. It started as a low burn – a blue ring around the wick nearly suffocated. I’d never seen anything like it. Then suddenly a flame stretched out of the blue and flickered wildly. I felt instant recognition – a reactionary creature, frantically reaching with a tendency to scorch those who might reach back.
